Children’s Ministry is high on our priority list at CHS. We would love to see every child enter into a personal relationship with Jesus. We recognize that children are a valued part of the body of Christ and we want to partner with them and guide them as they develop in their relationship with Him.

There are various facets of our Children’s Ministry programme:

Children’s Church on a Sunday morning:

What is Children’s Church all about?

Children’s church is less about keeping children occupied and more about teaching and grounding them in their faith. We do this with a team of trained leaders in fun and exciting ways that make children want to learn more. We take care to partner with parents in leading their children spiritually.

We are guided by the following verse from the Bible:

“Train a child in the way he/she should go, and when he/she is old he/she will not turn from it” (Proverbs 22:6)

For very young babies and toddlers, we have a comfortable Cry Room at the back of the church equipped with couches, a nappy changing area and toys to keep your little ones entertained.

Our N2Y group (Never Too Young) is for children born in 2011, 2012 and 2013; although any child over the age of about 18 months who feels confident enough to join the group may come along. This group consists mainly of freeplay with the “lesson” of the day being done in an incidental, chatty way as the children are playing.

The next group on offer is JAM (Jesus and Me) and is for children born in 2009 and 2010. This group also allows time for freeplay and fun, but there is also more of a “lesson”, usually taught using the Godly Play approach. The JAM group also make specific crafts relating to the lesson in the response time.

Our Grade 1-3’s are known as the Kings Kids and this year they are following the Rooted in Jesus curriculum. Crafts and activities are part of the programme; as well as time for chatting, playing games and getting to know one another.

The Grade 4s and 5s are called the Christ Kids and are also following the Rooted in Jesus Junior Curriculum this year, but at a quicker pace then the younger group.

The Grade 6s and 7s are called Route 66 and they are doing the Rooted in Jesus Adult curriculum which allows lots of time for discussion, questioning and interacting with one another.

Grade 4-7 Junior Youth Group on the last Friday of every month:

Junior Youth is held on a Friday evening once a month from 5:30pm-7:15pm and is open to all children in Grade 4-7. It is usually held on the last Friday of every month, but sometimes this changes depending on school holidays, public holidays and unexpected events. To be put on the monthly mailing list regarding exact details of each Junior Youth, e-mail Cathi at the address given below. Fast paced, fun, age appropriate activities are always planned and Junior Youth is a not to be missed event each month!

Scripture Union at Kirstenhof Primary

Kirstenhof Primary is our local community school and we are very privileged to run weekly Scripture Union Clubs there for both the Foundation Phase and Intersen children respectively. The Foundation Phase SU (Grade 1-3) is run on a Wednesday morning at first break and the Intersen club (Grade 4-7) is run on a Thursday morning also at first break and all children at Kirstenhof Primary may go along to their respective club. If anyone would like to get involved with SU at KPS, please chat to Cathi.
