We are a lively, family church that gathers in the Kirstenhof area of Cape Town and is networked across surrounding Cape Town communities.

CHS is united around a commitment to follow the way of Jesus Christ here and now.  We try to be accessible to all people, open to God transforming our lives, and growing in the three dimensions of relationship: with God; with each other, and; with our society and environment.  We are part of a dynamic movement that is called to bring God’s grace and liberating gospel (good news) to every person and situation – and to be good news.

CHS belongs to a family of six churches and an NGO (The Warehouse) that are together called The Parish of St.John the Evangelist, Wynberg (“The Parish”), which is part of the Anglican Diocese of Cape Town which, in turn is part of  the Anglican Church of South Africa (ACSA).

History

Formed in May 1999, CHS was a church ‘plant’ drawn primarily from the larger congregation of Christ Church, Kenilworth. 58 adults and one ordained minister set off to start a wholly new Anglican congregation – sent with the full support of Christ Church, the St.John’s Parish and our local area Bishop, Rev. Christopher Gregorowski.

We took over a run-down warehouse and small office complex at 38 Raapkraal Road, Kirstenhof and spent the next 6 months re-furbishing the site to make it usable for church meetings and a wider Christian ministry. Much of this work was done by our own church members. Since then, the buildings and the activities of the church have developed and a viable Christian community has been established.

In 2009 we celebrated our 10th birthday and look forward to being a teenager! Gordon Crowther was appointed minister-in-charge in January 2009.
